Robert Duvall

In Memory of Robert Duvall 1931-2026

Everyone has a favorite Robert Duvall movie. He gave life to so many iconic figures, but my all time favorite is Gus McCrae in Lonesome Dove. He portrayed Larry McMurtry's early American West with depth and humanity anchored in historical fiction.

While we never met Duvall, we did spend time with McMurtry, an all-time favorite too. So we had two degrees of separation another time too. We recall Duvall and Rockmount both featured in the same 2006 Cowboys & Indians issue. Somehow it seems we get to know these people who had such great impact on us personally and culturally. Duvall's memory lives on in these performances.
